Circuit City Trademark & Domain Sale Approved for $14M
The Boston Globe reported this morning that Systemax will purchase Circuit City, its trademarks and domain names for $14 million. This must mean that Systemax, a computer and electronics sales company, will begin to operate and re-open the Circuit City website.
New Google Keyword Search Tool
How does the Search-based Keyword Tool differ from the Keyword Tool in AdWords?
The main difference between the Search-based Keyword Tool and the Keyword Tool currently in AdWords is that the former generates keyword ideas based on your website, and identifies those currently not being used in your AdWords account. Additionally, the Search-based Keyword Tool provides more detailed data for each keyword, such as category information, suggested bid that may place the ad in the top three spots of a search results page, and ad/search share. Both tools, however, offer the option of browsing all keywords across all categories.
You may also notice that some of the data (like such as the monthly search volume) may vary slightly between the two tools, which is due to different methods of calculation at this time.

SEDO reported nearly $600,000 worth of domain sales this week including B4.com for $26,002, PlaneSales.com for $19,750, Mieten.com for about $18,000 (€13,222) and four domains at $15,000.

Google plans to open up trademarked keywords to AdWords advertisers
According to Michael Orey of Business Week, Google plans to open up trademarked keywords to AdWords advertisers in June. Beginning June 4th, companies will be able to bid on the brand names of their competition, which will heat up the AdWords listings throughout Google and lead to head to head battles in the SERPs over branded product, service and company names.
Honda, for instance, could bid to have one of its ads displayed when a consumer searches the term “Toyota.” In recent years some companies have sued Google or the competing company, saying the practice is a form of trademark infringement.
A lot of our clients are about to become extremely happy and/or very sad! This will certainly drive up the cost per click for branded/trademarked words that to date have had low cost per click (CPC).
As always, time will tell.
Ron Sheridan joins LA-based OCTANE360
